April 2019 Newsletter

The Northeast Fiddlers Association is a nonprofit. Donations are appreciated and are tax deductible.

It was such a disappointment to have to cancel our March meet. It is hard to explain how the mix-up occurred. We hope that everyone was notified in time, and that no one made a long trip to Williamstown only to find that the meet was cancelled. We’re definitely looking forward to Spring and our April 14 meet in Montpelier!

And, speaking of spring and warmer weather…
The Northeast Fiddlers Assoc. is being joined by the Champlain Valley Fiddlers and Young Tradition Vermont in launching the 2019 Festival of Fiddlers on the Green. This “festival” is an endeavor to document a fiddler or fiddlers playing in every Vermont town in the year 2019. Our progress in meeting this goal will be kept up to date at our website: www.fiddlersonthegreenvt.com. We will need your help in spreading the word, and your participation by sending photos of you or your favorite fiddler playing in a town or towns near you. Photos can be emailed to fiddler@fiddlersonthegreenvt.com or mailed to PO Box 644, Townshend, Vermont, 05353.

The Feb. meet in Hyde Park was lots of fun. Ten fiddlers took to the stage, and folks were treated to some great twin fiddling by Scott Campbell and Bill Cameron. Jean Flint won $61.50 in the 50/50 raffle, and Donna Commo and Nancy Warner were able to give Janice a few breaks at the piano.

We were sad to learn of the recent passing of Millie Gaboriault, a lifetime member and excellent piano player. A memorial service is planned for May, to be announced later.

Happy Fiddling All! See you in Montpelier!
